The Government Lands holds several different herds of Mustangs, including American Mustangs, Kiger Mustangs, Pryor Mustangs, Alberta Mustangs, ect. These herds are consistent Mustangs, however, and do not include wild breeds such as the Chincoteague/Assateague Ponies, Sable Island Ponies, ect.
The Government Lands also controls two important programs dedicated to the Mustang herds: Sponsorship and Adoption. These programs provide money that helps us manage the herds. There are also Round Up programs as part of the Adoption program.
Sponsorship Members can sponsor a herd or Mustang for a set amount, either as a one-time gift or throughout the herd/Mustang's life. This amount is 100% negotiatable - if you feel like donating $30/month or $300 once, that's perfectly fine with us! Excessivem money is passed onto the Government for programs such as the Breeder's and Show Trust.
Adoption The Mustang herds are thinned no more than twice a year. The Government's goals are to have an annual Round Up and selected Mustangs are sold. The horses chosen for Round Ups are youngsters, bachelors, and sometimes older horses in need of human intervention. In order to adopt members must be in good standings with the Government on Animal Care and may not have been fined in the past for animal neglect. Members that are accepted are allowed to bid during the Round Up.
Meet The Herds Shelly & Odeon are currently working on the Mustang herds!
